apartment hotel in Mayfair
Despite the requirement to retain the existing brick and stucco street elevation of No.5 Maddox Street, a contemporary apartment hotel was created behind it that was instantly acclaimed by leading lifestyle publications as “edgy”, an “epitome of London cool” and “highly discreet”.
The concept was for an alternative to a luxury hotel where guests could work, relax and entertain as if they were in their own homes. Twelve, one, two and three bedroom suites were created, each with private kitchen facilities and each designed to be an inner city sanctuary in this busy part of London’s Mayfair.
The old and the new architecture were successfully harmonised. Glimpses of the layering of the new building are intriguingly visible from the front and protrude into the existing façade at the entrance point without disturbing the architectural inheritance of this property and its neighbours.
